Computer literacy, financial management and parenting programs are among the services.
WARREN -- Beatitude House has received two grants totaling $50,000 for education and career preparation programs at the Tod Avenue facility.
The Raymond John Wean Foundation of Warren awarded a $30,000 grant, while St. Ann Foundation of Cleveland gave $20,000.
Beatitude House, a nonprofit organization started in 1991, provides transitional housing for homeless women with children and an education/career preparation program for homeless and other disadvantaged women in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The education and career preparation provides women with counseling and other support services while enhancing their basic skills to meet their goals of higher education or advanced career placement.
Services offered
Services include job counseling, life skills training, computer literacy, GED classes, parenting programs and financial management.
Other services provided by Beatitude House are a child advocacy program and a transportation cooperative.
The child advocate meets with women in the program to provide needed services regarding their children and serves as a link to connect the family with additional resources in the community concerning children.
In 1998, Beatitude House established its transportation cooperative organized and directed by women in the programs.
The program, Women of Faith in Motion, provides grants for driver's training and a combination of grants and loans for car repairs.
Seeking car donations
The cooperative also accepts donated cars in good working order, which are then sold to a client for between $100 and $300. The money is then used to support the cooperative.
Anyone interested in supporting Beatitude House's mission may call Sister Patricia McNicholas, executive director, at (330) 744-3147.
Tax deductible donations also are accepted at executive offices at 287 Lora Ave., Youngstown 44504.
