PREP SOCCER Niles wins season opener 1-0 on Green's lone goal

LIBERTY -- Michael Green scored a first half goal on an assist by Jake Schimlay and Niles High went on to beat host Liberty 1-0 in a non-conference boys soccer game Monday.
Joe Harvey had four saves for Niles (1-0). Devin Cusick saved 10 shots for Liberty (0-1).
Howland 2, Lakeview 0
CORTLAND -- Neil Clagett and Lucas Martorana each scored goals for Howland (1-0). Mike Maiorano added an assist. Zack Roscoe had two saves for the Tigers. Alex Koltsov had 13 saves for the Bulldogs.
Champion 7, LaBrae 0
CHAMPION -- John Emery scored three goals to lead Champion (1-0) in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Also scoring goals were Adam Lantz, Chris Palm, Max Brugler and Zac Wright. Rudy Pekarovic had an assist, as did Zach Gumont, Tim Oswald, Kevin Ramsey, Kreig Brugler and Pat Roden. The Flashes outshot LaBrae 20-0.

NEWTON FALLS -- Newton Falls' Heather Martin and Southeast's Kate Dubinski each scored goals as the teams tied 1-1 in a non-conference game.
Lea Lange had the assist for the Tigers (0-0-1), while Sarah Bedrarik added an assist for the Pirates (0-0-1).
Grace Spletzer had 10 saves for Falls. Southeast keeper Teresa Streblek had 17 saves.
