Aeros lose 3-1
AKRON -- Ian Oquendo held Akron to one run on three hits as the Altoona Curve beat the Aeros 3-1 Sunday in the Eastern League.
Oquendo (3-0) also struck out four in 52/3 innings. Mike Johnson picked up his seventh save of the year by striking out four and allowing one hit in 31/3 innings.
Crew falls in OT
DENVER -- Mark Chung scored a goal 58 seconds into overtime to give the Colorado Rapids a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.
Chung took a pass from John Spencer, outmaneuvered defender Eric Denton and sent a shot past Columbus (5-9-0) goalkeeper Jon Busch for the winning goal.

Mesa shoves reporter
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia closer Jose Mesa shoved a reporter in the team's locker room after the reliever failed to convert a save in the Phillies' 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.
Minutes after the game, Mesa sat in front of his locker with one hand on his knee and the other rubbing his chin. A reporter from The Philadelphia Inquirer approached Mesa, who began cursing. A heated argument ensued before Mesa raised both arms and pushed the reporter away. Reliever Carlos Silva came in between the two men before Mesa walked into the trainer's room.
Atlanta in title game
ATLANTA -- Charmaine Hooper scored in the fourth minute of overtime to send the Atlanta Beat to their second Founders Cup in three years with a 2-1 win over San Diego on Sunday.
The second-seeded Beat will play fourth-seeded Washington in the Founders Cup III Aug. 24.
Sam Hornish Jr.sets IRL records
SPARTA, Ky. -- Sam Hornish Jr. set Indy Racing League records for average speed and career wins in a dominating victory at the Belterra Casino Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Hornish, the two-time defending IRL IndyCar Series champion, averaged 197.897 mph, shattering the series speed record of 180.917 mph, set by Alex Barron on July 27 at Michigan International Speedway.
The CART series speed record is 197.995 mph, set by Jimmy Vasser in California on Nov. 3, 2002.
Duncan leads U.S.
NEW YORK -- Tim Duncan had 21 points and 15 rebounds and the United States broke open a semi-close game with a 10-0 fourth-quarter run to defeat Puerto Rico 101-74 in an exhibition game Sunday.
It was the only tuneup for the Americans before beginning play Wednesday night at the Olympic qualifying tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Gymnast defects
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- One of Cuba's male gymnasts defected at the World Championships after the team competition finished Sunday night.
Michel Brito Ferrer planned to compete in the meet so he could travel to the United States and then defect, according to his uncle, Ramon Ferrer, who lives in Los Angeles. He called his uncle to pick him up at the team hotel Sunday.

Henin-Hardennerouts teenager
TORONTO -- Justine Henin-Hardenne beat Russian teenager Lina Krasnoroutskaya 6-1, 6-0 Sunday in the final of the Rogers AT & amp;T Cup for her 12th career title.
Henin-Hardenne, the French Open champion ranked No. 3, made quick work of the unseeded 19-year-old Krasnoroutskaya, winning in 54 minutes.
Pan Ams endwith tributes
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- The Pan American Games came to an end Sunday night amid tributes to the Dominican Republic's success in pulling off the biggest event in its history.
After the playing of the Dominican national anthem, the Olympic and Dominican flags were lowered, then the Pan Ams torch was extinguished -- to be lit again in four years in Rio de Janeiro.
