JOB LOSS
Greenville area
The greater Greenville area has experienced three major job losses the past few years:
Trinity Industries: Closed its railroad car production plant in Greenville in December 2000, idling 230 remaining workers. The plant had 2,000 employees in spring 1999.
Damascus Tube: Closed its Transfer plant in December 2002, idling 42 people. The plant had more than 200 employees in the mid-1990s.
Werner Co.: Announced in March that it will move its ladder manufacturing operation out of its Greenville area plant, idling 500 employees.
