SOFTBALL ROUNDUP Poland and Howland advance to title game of Myrtle Beach event

Boardman defeated Lakewood at the Wendy's Classic in Ashland.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Poland High softball team (5-0) was scheduled to play Howland (5-0) for the Myrtle Beach Recreation Center Grand Strand Softball Classic championship this morning.
The Bulldogs defeated Fairfax (Va.) St. Paul VI, 3-1 Thursday to reach the title game.
Junior Mallory Conger (5-2) fired a two-hitter, with five strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win.
The Bulldogs (12-4) got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first inning as Stephanie Russell hit a two-run single.
Boardman 7, Lakewood 3
ASHLAND -- The unbeaten Spartans (14-0) jumped out to a 6-1 lead by the end of the third inning in the Wendy's Classic tournament.
Jenna Brandenstein hit a triple, single and drove in two runs, while teammate Meagan Cunningham hit a double and single and drove in two runs.
Jennifer Pancake (10-0) worked six innings and struck out three. She also hit two singles.
Courey Houk hit a pair of singles for Lakewood (12-5).
Canfield 12, South Range 0
CANFIELD -- Megan Turocy pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Canfield. Turocy walked just one.
Whitney Zunic, Turocy and Ginny Naples each had two hits.
Skye Walley singled in the top of the seventh to break-up the no-hit bid.
Rayen 18, Yo. Christian 6
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tanesha Williams had a double and two singles for the Tigers (3-3) who scored 10 runs in the sixth inning.
Joi Smith and Natasha Clemons added a single and a double apiece while Emili Donato singled twice for Rayen.
Youngstown Christian is 0-5.
Springfield 4, Struthers 0
STRUTHERS -- Krysta Snyder (4-3) scattered three hits and struck out five in a complete-game effort. Danielle DeWitt and Amanda Delveav each had two hits.
Hubbard 10, Brookfield 2
HUBBARD -- Hubbard pushed across eight runs in the second inning.
Brittany McKee hit a triple, double and single, stole a base and scored once for the Eagles (7-5, 5-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Winning pitcher Amanda Taylor scattered five hits and she helped her own cause by hitting three singles.
Carrie Gibson hit a double and single to pace Brookfield (3-9, 1-6).
Mineral Ridge 13, Salem 2
SALEM -- Everyone in the starting lineup for Mineral Ridge (12-3) had at least one hit and the Rams scored at least one run in every inning.
Sylvia Dubic of the Rams hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs, while teammate Robin Zimmerman hit two singles and had two RBIs.
Kaili Gehring (11-3) scattered three hits with eight strikeouts.
Western Reserve 15, Lowellville 3
LOWELLVILLE -- The Blue Devils scored four runs in the top of the first inning in the Inter-County League contest.
The Rockets (13-2, 9-1) lead the ICL.
Katie Harmon (4-0) allowed only three hits and struck out four in pitching a complete game.
Tiffany Palumbo hit four singles, scored four time and stole a base for the blue Devils. Leslie Razo hit a triple and three singles and drove in four runs, while Ashley Dees and Harmon each had two hits and two RBIs.
Lindsay Wilson Led Lowellville with two singles.
