It's the largest expansion in the retirement community's history.
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A new health center, renovation of the existing health center and an expansion of services are all part of a $30 million project planned at St. Paul Homes in West Salem Township.
It's the largest expansion in the 136-year history of the continuing care retirement community and will be completed in 2005, said Terry Wheeler, president of St. Paul Homes' board of directors.
Ground was officially broken for the project Wednesday.
Expansion
The new 192-bed health center will provide skilled and intermediate nursing care and expanded Alzheimer's and dementia care services, as well as provide a dementia assisted-living program.
There will be more privacy for residents, a residential environment and easy access to meals, activities, staff, lounge and outdoor areas. Service corridors will decrease the disruption caused by delivery of meals, laundry, housekeeping equipment and supplies.
The health center is being built next to the existing building and will share dietary, purchasing, housekeeping, maintenance, volunteer and spiritual services. Residents will have easy access to rehabilitation services, the Senior FITness Center, medical clinic, chapel and a bistro for snacks and light meals with visitors. The center is slated for completion in November 2004.
Renovation
The renovation of the existing health center will provide 80 studio and one-bedroom apartments for individuals wishing to live independently while having services readily available such as meals, housekeeping, transportation or activities. That work is to be completed in 2005.
The expansion of existing services includes new outpatient therapy services as well as permanent facilities for the Senior FITness program.
Mistick Inc. of Pittsburgh is the building contractor.
