NILES -- Youngstown State couldn't hold on to a 3-0 lead as its four-game winning streak came to a halt, 8-3 by Detroit Sunday in a Horizon League game at Cafaro Field.
The Penguins (15-15, 3-5 Horizon) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Charles Schultz walked and scored on Adam Cox's doubled, then Jim Phillips hit his fourth home run of the season.
The Titans (7-16, 3-4) scored single runs in the second and eighth and two each in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings.
Gary Hinkson hit three singles, while Justin Banks and Schultz each had two hits for YSU. Kevin Libeg, who worked 21/3 innings in relief, took the loss.
Softball
CANFIELD -- Junior Amanda Berry hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Youngstown State a 3-2 victory over Loyola Sunday in a Horizon League game at McCune Park.
Steph Hartman pitched 12/3 hitless innings of hitless ball to pick up the win.
The Penguins (19-11-1, 4-2-1 Horizon) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when freshman Tiffany Patteson, who was 2-for-3, singled and scored on a error.
YSU's Kelly Murphy had a no-hitter through four innings, before Loyola's Becky Marx hit a home run in the fifth to tie the score at 1.
The Penguins regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Aimee Soller walked and scored on Patteson's triple. It was Patteson's sixth triple of the season, setting a school record.
The Ramblers (22-13, 7-3) tied it in the top of the sixth on Katie Blackmore's home run.
Tennis
BOARDMAN -- Youngstown State lost 6-1 to Butler Sunday at the Boardman Tennis Center.
Heather Hagood was the solo winner for the Penguins, beating Laurel Clements at No. 3 singles.
The Penguins concluded the spring schedule with a 2-5 record in Horizon League and they were 3-10 overall.
YSU's men's team (3-6, 0-4) was blanked by Butler 7-0.
YSU will compete in the league championships in Indianapolis April 26-27.
Women's golf
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Youngstown State placed 12th at the 15-team EKU Lady Colonel Classic with score of 353-345-329--1,027. Toledo and Eastern Michigan tied for the title at 945.
Gina Abruzzino of YSU placed 43rd with 82-82-83--247. Jennifer Grossi (253) was 55th, Lon Hatcher (256) was 60th, Jennie Fleiner (259) was 66th and Nicole Hamstrett and Elizabeth Sabatino tied (274) for 77th place.

Youngstown fighterswin in Golden Gloves
CLEVELAND -- Michael Sackela of the Buckeye Elks Club won a decision over Christopher Evans of the Thereagood AC of Cleveland in the Golden Gloves tournament Saturday at Garfield Heights High gymnasium.
The 16-year boxer is trained by John Hobart and Nick Marsh.
Anthony Antonio won the 165-open match, beating Jim Dempsey of Akron Rubber AC, then lost to David Coonors of Cleveland in a semifinal bout.
Josh Taylor lost a decision to John Mereiatla of Jacic Stable of Cleveland.
The only Open boxer to win a title was Warren's Zack Page Jr., a heavyweight who is trained by P.C. Torres at the Warren Boxing Association.
Page used a left jab in winning a finals four-round decision over Marcus Bent from Cleveland's Glenville Recreation Center to get the heavyweight title and a trip to the Nationals in May.
Page's father, Zack Page Sr., won Golden Gloves titles in Youngstown and Cleveland and also went to the nationals.

Aeros lose 12-4
AKRON -- Leo Daigle hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Erie SeaWolves to a 12-4 win over the Akron Aeros Sunday in the Eastern League.
Mansfield's Williams leads in all-star game
COLUMBUS -- Canea Williams of Mansfield Senior scored 22 points and made her sixth 3-pointer with 46 seconds remaining Sunday night, lifting the North to a 100-97 victory over the South in the girls' Division I-II all-star game at Capital University.
The South got 20 points from Columbus Mifflin's Brittney Whiteside.
Ohio State recruit Stephanie Blanton of Lancaster totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds, but shot just 5-of-15 from the field and 1-of-9 at the line.
In the Division III-IV girls game, Sugarcreek Garaway's Nikki Parson scored 17 points off the bench to lead the North to an 81-75 win.
In the boys Division I-II game, Willard's Nick Dials scored 22 points and hit three pivotal baskets down the stretch as the North rallied for a 100-99 victory.
MVP Tori Davis of Elyria Open Door had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Garaway's Tyler Renner added 18 points and 15 rebounds as the North beat the South 125-107 in the boys Division III-IV game.

LONDON -- Deena Drossin overcame stomach problems more than halfway through the London Marathon, sprinting to the line to finish third for the best American time at this distance, behind women's winner Paula Radcliffe of England.
Her time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 16 seconds Sunday beat Joan Benoit's U.S. mark by five seconds.
