THE VINDICATOR, YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A Texas-based wholesaler of water treatment systems and components has closed its distribution center on Mortensen Road.
The move idled five workers Tuesday, said Beth Thomas, spokeswoman for Alamo Water Refiners Inc. The five were furloughed, she said.
The Greenville facility served residential and commercial water-system contractors throughout New England and southern Canada as well as across Ohio and into Virginia.
However, the local customer base was weak, and there were few "over-the-counter" transactions, Thomas said.
Chris Wilker, Alamo president and general manager, said the company feels it is critical that distribution centers be physically closer to the company's key markets and conveniently located on national transportation arteries to increase delivery speed and reduce shipping costs.
Alamo maintains three other distribution centers in Texas, Florida and Illinois. Current Greenville customers will be served out of all three of those locations, Thomas said.
