LORDSTOWN -- With a new line from the village's water supply, a local company plans to expand and add as many as 100 jobs.
Frank Sutliff, general manager of The Ohio Commerce Center industrial park on Tod Avenue, said Comprehensive Logistics wants to expand at the site it leases in the village, but needs a better water supply to do so.
Council agreed Monday to grant a permanent right of way and easement to the industrial park so a line can be constructed off the village's main line on Palmyra Drive. But before approving the matter, some council members said they would like to see an agreement between the Board of Public Affairs and The Ohio Commerce Center that the site will begin getting all of its water from the village.
Sutliff said the industrial park uses Warren water as its primary source, with Lordstown water serving as a backup.
"Right now, that backup is not adequate," he said. "With the new line, we will switch over."
The new waterline will provide better flow to tenants of the park, as well as allow Comprehensive Logistics to install a better sprinkler system.
Warren would then service the site as a backup, Sutliff said.
Money collection
Also at the meeting, council gave first reading to a resolution to help in the collection of money owed the village by those who did not mow their lawns.
Zoning Superintendent Ron Barnhart said when grass or weeds and not mowed by property owners, the village will send workers to complete the task, then bill the property owner.
In some cases, however, owners do not pay the bills. The resolution, he said, allows the village to seek remittance by placing a lien on the property.
