WARREN -- A boy accused of raping a 10-year-old girl will remain in the juvenile detention center for at least the next few days.
A detention hearing was held in Trumbull County Juvenile Court on Wednesday for the 13-year-old.
Police and court officials will not release the teenager's name, and reporters were not allowed in the courtroom.
Police officers said it was determined during the hearing that the boy should remain in the detention center until his next court appearance.
Court officials said he will not be tried as an adult.
Since the boy does not have an attorney, a lawyer from the state public defender's commission will be appointed to represent him.
The boy is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl he knows.
Possible sentence
If convicted, he could be ordered to serve from a year to seven years. Court officials said the boy could be held at the state Department of Youth Services until he is 21.
Police reports state that the victim was walking home on York Avenue on Warren's southwest side around 5 p.m. March 7.
When the girl got home, she told a female relative the 13-year-old sexually assaulted her and police were contacted. Police reports do not state if the girl suffered any injuries.
Detectives are still investigating and say another boy who was at the scene may be arrested.
