ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player to hit 300 homers, but Anaheim beat Texas behind home runs from Troy Glaus, Brad Fullmer and Darin Erstad. Rodriguez, 27 years, 249 days old, hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning off Ramon Ortiz (1-0), his second of the season. The fastest to 300 had been Hall of Fame member Jimmie Foxx at 27 years, 328 days. Foxx finished his career with 534 homers.
Yankees 9, Blue Jays 7
TORONTO -- Erick Almonte homered and had three RBIs in his first game as Derek Jeter's replacement, and New York finished a three-game sweep. Almonte, recalled after Jeter dislocated his left shoulder in Monday's opener, went 2-for-5 in his first major league start.
Twins 8, Tigers 1
DETROIT -- Jacque Jones hit a two-run homer and had four RBIs, and Joe Mays (1-0) gave up just two hits in five innings, improving to 8-0 in his last 10 starts against the Tigers.
Royals 5, White Sox 4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Joe Randa broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run homer in the seventh off Rick White (0-1), and Kansas City improved to 2-0 for the first time in 24 years. Albie Lopez (1-0) gave up an RBI single in the eighth to Armando Rios.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Jason Varitek hit a three-run homer and Derek Lowe (1-0), who no-hit the Devil Rays last April, shrugged off a shaky start and allowed five runs and six hits in six innings.
Athletics 8, Mariners 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- AL MVP Miguel Tejada hit a three-run homer and Cy Young winner Barry Zito pitched six solid innings for Oakland. Eric Chavez also homered and Mark Ellis hit a two-run double for the defending AL West champions.

PHOENIX -- Kevin Brown shut down Arizona on three hits in six-plus innings. Shawn Green was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs.

NEW YORK -- Sammy Sosa just missed his 500th homer, and Al Leiter threw six sharp innings for New York. Cliff Floyd and Roger Cedeno homered, giving manager Art Howe his first victory in a New York uniform.

ATLANTA -- Zach Day and three relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Jose Vidro hit a two-run homer to lead Montreal. Day (1-0), making just his third big league start, allowed three hits in seven innings.

MIAMI -- Randy Wolf (1-0) took a one-hitter into the seventh inning, Jim Thome had two more hits and Mike Lieberthal added a bases-loaded triple for Philadelphia. Carl Pavano (0-1) allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings.

ST. LOUIS -- Woody Williams pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning and Mike Matheny had three hits and two RBIs to lead St. Louis. Williams, limited to 17 starts last season by a pulled muscle in his left side, didn't allow a hit until Eric Young tripled to right with two outs in the sixth.

HOUSTON -- Craig Biggio's two-run single capped a five-run rally in the ninth inning for Houston. Jose Jimenez (0-1) entered with a 7-3 lead and gave up six hits while retiring just one batter.

SAN DIEGO -- Marquis Grissom's three-run double highlighted a five-run third inning.
