Woman cited after crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- After a crash Tuesday afternoon at Mahoning Avenue and Steel Street, Vickie L. Mansfield, 40, of Thornton Road, Hubbard, was cited for driving with an expired/suspended driver's license.
On Jan. 9, Mansfield was convicted in municipal court of drug abuse.
Records show she hasn't paid $120 in fines and cost.
Probing report of beating
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a group of men beat up a 21-year-old South Raccoon Road man and stole his wallet, stereo speakers and amplifier.
Police also found suspected marijuana, marijuana pipes, a digital scale and an unidentified white powder in the victim's apartment.
The victim told police he invited five men to his apartment at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss purchasing car rims.
He said the men held him down, beat him and took his stereo equipment.
Police found the suspected drugs while searching the man's apartment during the robbery investigation. The drug investigation continues.
Awards for arts teachers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Three people received outstanding arts-teacher awards Tuesday from the Arts Council of Youngstown and Mahoning County at a ceremony at Stambaugh Auditorium.
The winners are Mark Shohayda of Canfield High School in the art category; Don Stimple of Poland Middle School in the music category; and Kandace Cleland of Canfield Middle School in the theater category.
Winners received a commendation from state Sen. Robert Hagan of Youngstown, D-33rd, and the Ohio Senate, a proclamation from Mayor George McKelvey and $100 from the arts council to be used in their classrooms.
New elevator's working
LOWELLVILLE -- A new elevator in the village administration building is finally operable after months of construction delays.
The elevator makes the building accessible to those who are physically impaired and was originally expected to be finished last May.
Police kill ill raccoon
STRUTHERS -- Police shot and killed a sick raccoon Monday morning after street department workers discovered the animal in the 700 block of Poland Avenue. Reports said street department employees found the raccoon about 8:15 a.m.
