PREP CROSS COUNTRY South Range runners make it twice as nice

The Raiders won the boys and girls races at the Western Reserve meet.
BERLIN CENTER -- The South Range High boys and girls cross country teams swept the top spots Saturday at the Western Reserve Invitational.
The Raider boys, who scored 34 points, locked down three of the top five places. Dan Nemergut led the way by placing second in a time of 17 minutes, 18.33 seconds. He was followed by Doug Miller (third, 17:41.94) and Jared Oliver (fifth, 17:47.07).
Leetonia's Danny Simpson was the medalist, finishing in 16:50.74.
Sarah Wingert led the South Range girls to victory, with 47 points, by winning the meet in 21:15.07. She was followed by Molly Wingert (fifth, 21:53.64) and Kendra Nissley (sixth, 21:54.77).
Clipper Invitational
COLUMBIANA -- Cardinal Mooney captured four of the first seven places on its way to the boys team title. Struthers took the top spot in the girls race.
The efforts of Erik Moss (second, 17:31), Dan Finnerty (fourth, 17:46), Colin Durina (sixth, 17:52) and Ben Garchar (seventh, 18:06) put the Cardinals in front with 30 points.
East Liverpool's Jake Kinsey was the medalist with 17:26.
Mooney's Val Zajac finished first in the girls race in 20:39, but it was Struthers, with 26 points, that had enough balance in the team race.
Leading the Wildcats were Candice Eagon (second, 21:08), Jessica Johnston (fifth, 21:56), Amanda Ardale (sixth, 22:00), Leslie Shook (eighth, 22:22) and Terri George (ninth, 22:27).
Niles Challenge
NILES -- The Jefferson Area boys and girls won team titles by each scoring 26 points, holding off Howland.
Travis Grout won the boys race in 17:17, while teammate Ben Hamilton finished third (17:38). Howland's Ryan Trapp was the runner-up, finishing in 17:28, as the Tigers placed three points behind Jefferson.
Mary Sivulich of Hubbard won the girls race (20:38), finishing in front of Jefferson's Amanda Carney (20:57) and Yoko Stevenson (21:45). The Howland girls scored 58 points and finished third.
Brookfield Invitational
BROOKFIELD -- The West Middlesex boys and girls teams swept the top spots with 15 points each.
