MERCER COUNTY Man is hospitalized with West Nile

Three people in Pennsylvania have died of the disease.
SHARON, Pa. -- The first human case of West Nile virus has been found in Mercer County.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said a 46-year-old man has been diagnosed with the disease and has been hospitalized.
Richard McGarvey, department spokesman, said the name of the victim and his home municipality won't be released, but people should be aware the disease is present and should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
The state health department also confirmed Monday three new West Nile cases in Allegheny County, two in York County and one in Montgomery County.
The tally
That brings the total of human cases in Pennsylvania to 18, and three of those people have died: an 87-year-old Allegheny County man, a 73-year-old Philadelphia woman and an 84-year-old Lancaster County man.
The virus has turned up in all but eight of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, including nearby Venango and Warren counties.
Mercer and Lawrence
The state has stopped some testing in counties where the virus has been found. Results showed 14 dead birds and one mosquito pool in Mercer County and 11 dead birds, two mosquito pools and two dead horses in Lawrence County before testing halted.
Of the 18 human cases reported so far, the age of victims range from 18 to 87. Eight of them are 65 or older.
