YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State was handed a 2-0 setback by UW-Milwaukee Friday in a Horizon League opener at Stambaugh Stadium.
The Panthers had 31 shots on goal, compared to two for YSU. Freshman Caitlin Bestart, YSU's goalkeeper, had 15 saves.

Columbiana Co.team is third
AKRON -- A team from Columbiana County shot 11-under par on the par 72 North Course at Firestone Country Club to place third in Flight III the American Cancer Society's state championship golf tournament.
The members of the team are David Baer, Tom Creed, Jim Rosenberg and Bob Casal. The event drew 82 teams, 22 in Flight III.
Clemente setscourse record
WARREN -- Colin Clemente, a junior at Warren JFK High School, shot 30 at the Bedford Trails golf course, a course record as well as a JFK record.
He also carded a 69 at Mill Creek Park, to break the tournament record in the Cardinal Classic.
Charity gameat Ice Zone
BOARDMAN -- The local chapter of the Mother's Hope Foundation will sponsor a "Nite At The Ice Zone" on Oct. 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The event will send an all-star team of local players against members of the Youngstown State hockey club at the Ice Zone in Boardman.
Alumni players from the Pittsburgh Penguins will serve as honorary coaches for the charity event. For details call (330) 500-4000.

Penguins hireSmith as consultant
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired former New York Rangers general manager Neil Smith as a consultant to Penguins general manager Craig Patrick.
Smith, 48, was the Rangers GM from 1989-2000 and in 1994 led the team to its only Stanley Cup victory in the past 61 years. He was fired March 27, 2000, with the Rangers on the brink of missing the playoffs for the third straight season.
Smith was a consultant for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks for two years and did color commentary on ESPN last season, which he will continue to do.
Patrick said Smith was hired because assistant general manager Eddie Johnston will spend most of his time helping the coaching staff.

* DOVER, Del. -- Having come close to victory several times this season, Scott Wimmer posted his first NASCAR Grand National series victory, winning Saturday's MBNA 200 at Dover International Speedway under caution. Wimmer was leading when two accidents unfolded on Lap 199 of 200.
Wimmer, 26, is the fifth first-time winner in the series this season. His 26th starting position is the farthest back of any series race winner at Dover. The previous record was 24th.
* SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -- Mike Bliss extended his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead Saturday, driving a strategic race to win the Hardee's 250 at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway.
Bliss, who started second in the 36-truck field, pitted on the 92nd lap and dropped to 13th place.
But, in a race slowed by a series-record 88 laps of caution, Bliss slowly worked his way back to the front of the pack. He caught and passed Coy Gibbs on lap 199 and held a 6-second lead when the 10th and final caution flag waved at lap 248 for Randy MacDonald's spin into the third-turn wall on the 0.4-mile track.
The yellow extended the scheduled 250-lap distance to 257 -- capped by a two-lap shootout between Bliss's Chevrolet Silverado and a Chevy driven by Dennis Setzer.
Bliss prevailed to win for the fifth time in 2002. The winning margin was 0.559 seconds -- about two truck lengths. Bliss, who averaged just 59.403 mph, won $41,250.
South beats Northin WUSA game
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Abby Wambach scored two goals and added an assist to earn MVP honors as the South beat the North 6-1 in the inaugural WUSA All-Star game Saturday.
Wambach, the rookie of the year this season, scored in the 24th and 60th minutes, and assisted on Charmaine Hooper's goal in the 66th minute. Hooper also had two assists.
Mia Hamm had two assists for the South. University of Portland graduate Shannon MacMillan had a goal and two assists.
Marinette Pichon opened the scoring for the North in the 12th minute. Tisha Venturini-Hoch assisted.
In the 15th minute Hamm dribbled into the box with a nice individual effort and fired off a quick shot that just went over the crossbar
In the 21st minute, it was Hamm again, this time moving to the right of goal and feeding Hege Rise with a perfect pass for a one-timer that got by starting North goalkeeper Melissa Moore to tie it.
After that it was all South. The All-Stars from Carolina, Washington, Atlanta and San Diego outshot their counterparts 19-11 (10-8 on goal) and had 10 corners to the North's three.
The North squad was made up of players from Philadelphia, Boston, San Jose and New York.
Dele brother remains in coma
LOS ANGELES -- The brother of missing former NBA player Bison Dele remained in a coma and was still listed in critical condition Saturday. Meanwhile, FBI agents investigating the disappearance of Dele and two others were expected to leave Tahiti over the weekend.
Dele's brother, Miles Dabord, 35, also known as Kevin Williams, was identified by the FBI on Thursday, five days after he was found comatose in Tijuana, Mexico, and taken to a California hospital. The FBI arrested him on suspicion of impersonating his brother while trying to buy $152,000 in gold.
Authorities searching Dele's 55-foot catamaran at a Tahitian port discovered traces of what appeared to be blood inside and outside the vessel.
