Work at turnpike exit
HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said that exit lane 4 at the Cranberry Interchange in Butler County will close at 9 p.m. today and remain closed until at least Friday.
During the closure, crews will make improvements to the E-ZPass equipment. Three other exit lanes will be open. The commission added that motorists should be aware of the possibility of delays exiting at Cranberry next week.
Forum for candidates
YOUNGSTOWN -- Contenders in probate and appellate court races will speak at a judicial candidates forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Dominic Parish Center, 3403 Southern Blvd.
Featured will be Mahoning County Probate Judge Timothy P. Maloney and his challenger, Atty. Maureen A. Sweeney, and Judge Joseph J. Vukovich of the 7th District Court of Appeals, and his challenger, Judge C. Ashley Pike, a Columbiana County Common Pleas judge. The event is sponsored by the Southern Boulevard Block Watch.
Reception at school
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Mohawk Junior/Senior High School will have a reception in the cafeteria to welcome the district's new superintendent, Timothy McNamee, at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. An open house for all parents and guardians will follow, with parents are asked to report to their child's first class at 7:15 p.m.
An open meeting for parents of seventh-grade pupils will be at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria at the end of the evening.
Grandparents' group
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County grandparent support group will meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Challenge's Center at Schenley Square at 2706 Mercer Road. The group is for grandparents raising their grandchildren and the children of other relatives.
Lawrence County Children and Youth Services director Jane Gajda will be the guest speaker. There will be a light dinner and activities for children during the meeting.
Those attending must register by 4 p.m. Wednesday by calling (724) 654-8370. The program is sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension and Challenges, Options in Aging.
2 face federal charges
CLEVELAND -- Federal charges of aiding and abetting bank fraud have been filed against a man and a woman, both from Youngstown.
Thomas Watson, 37, of Brentwood Avenue, who is being held in Summit County Jail on related local charges, is charged with driving two other men to various financial institutions to cash counterfeit checks.
Danielle Hosey, 26, of Sherwood Avenue, is charged with compromising bank customer information and photocopying customer checks for use in the counterfeit check scheme while she was a teller at Metropolitan National Bank in Boardman.
Four others have already pleaded guilty to bank fraud, and a fifth is still facing fraud charges in the scheme, the U.S. attorney said.
