Sidewalk project
LIBERTY -- Construction began Tuesday on a $363,653 sidewalk project along Belmont Avenue. The work is being done by Parella-Pannunzio Inc. of Austintown and will include sidewalks extended from Gypsy Lane to Church Hill Park near Interstate 80. The project will take 30 to 60 days. The sidewalks are designed to make Belmont Avenue safer for pedestrians patronizing businesses, including motels. Funds for the work are from an Ohio Department of Transportation grant.
Flag football league
WARREN -- Sign-up for a flag football league at the Trumbull County YMCA for children ages 8 to 14 will end Saturday. Participation in the league costs $25 for YMCA members and $40 for nonmembers, and includes a shirt and a sleepover after the final Warren G. Harding home football game. The fee is $5 less for a second child from the same family.
Fowler school days
FOWLER -- Fowler Township Historical Society's theme for the open house at the David and Melissa Butts Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday will be "School Days Gone By." The museum is at state routes 193 and 305. Ample parking is available at the First Methodist Church. Museum fund-raiser
CANTON -- The McKinley Museum and National Memorial here will host the fund-raiser "Our First Expedition: Digging Behind the Exhibits."
The casual evening for 50 guests is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the museum and memorial at 800 McKinley Monument Drive N.W., Canton. The McKinley Museum and National Memorial is a private, nonprofit organization under the umbrella of the Stark County Historical Society.
Cost is $100 per person, $80 of which is tax deductible. For reservations, call (330) 455-7043.
Apple Cider Festival
LORDSTOWN -- The Lordstown Apple Cider Festival Craft Show will be Sept. 21-22 at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center -- the former Gordon D. James Career Center building on Salt Springs Road.
The hours are noon to 8 p.m. the first day and noon to 5 p.m. the second day. Those interested in renting space, call Sue Minor at (330) 824-3777.
In conjunction with the show, the Lordstown Historical Society one-room schoolhouse will be open Sept. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. Anyone with old items for display should call Alda Pugh at (330) 824-2116.
The society will have its cookbook available at its festival booth, along with personalized bricks for the walkway in front of the museum.
Self-defense seminar
BRISTOLVILLE -- Friends of the Bristol Public Library are sponsoring a self-defense seminar for children and adults at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the library. Register in person or by calling the library at (330) 889-3651.
