NEW CASTLE Two face charges in shooting of men

Two men were injured, including a bystander, when the shooting started.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two men wanted in a weekend shooting in which two people were injured have surrendered to police.
Jermaine Wilson, 20, of Beech Street and Brian Lee Payne, 18, of East Lincoln Avenue were in the Lawrence County Jail this morning after failing to post $200,000 bond each.
Both are scheduled for preliminary hearings at 2 p.m. Friday before District Justice Melissa Amodie.
Wilson faces charges of criminal attempt to commit homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, eight counts of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and carrying a firearm without a license.
Payne is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy to commit simple assault, criminal conspiracy, eight counts of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and harassment.
Two injured
Two men were injured, including a bystander, when the shooting started after 3 p.m. Sunday outside the West Side Mini Mart, police said.
Donald Altman, 65, of West Washington Street was shot in the back and taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. His condition was not available this morning.
Michael Polite, 23, of Hilton Street, Youngstown, was shot in the right foot and treated at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.
Police said Polite was inside the West Side Mini Mart when Wilson and Payne approached him and started to pistol whip him with a 9mm handgun. Polite broke free and ran away, police said.
Shots were fired, and Altman, who was walking down the street, fell to the ground, authorities said. Polite was shot in the foot but kept running, they said. He was later found at the Bolinger Playground on Lowry and North streets.
