E. Palestine council recognizes labor unions

Tuesday, September 10, 2002

EAST PALESTINE -- City council agreed Monday to recognize the union representing its police and dispatchers during labor negotiations set to begin in coming months.
The city is losing its city status as the result of new federal census figures and is not required to recognize labor unions.
But council decided it still wanted to extend recognition to the Fraternal Order of Police, Councilwoman Margo Zuch explained this morning.
The police and dispatcher contract expires at the end of this year.
Council also gave the first of three required readings to an ordinance creating a city plumbing inspector position.
