Police probe report of child abuse

AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a father choked his 11-year-old son Wednesday in a DeHoff Drive home.
The boy told police he was choked after he and his younger brother ignored his mother's request to be quiet about 9:30 p.m. in the home. The boy and his brother were wrestling at the time.
As the two continued to wrestle, the 11-year-old boy's father got off the couch, told the boy to shut up and began to choke him. The boy pushed himself away from his father and walked with his older brother to a nearby video store, where they called police.
Police arrested the 31-year-old father after they learned he was wanted on a warrant for failing to comply with a court order out of Youngstown Municipal Court.
Police described the living conditions in the home as "below standard and very sloppy." Reports state that there was little food in the home and that the boys' bedrooms were messy.
