NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local Board of Education has begun a policy of continuous improvement.
During a special meeting Wednesday, board members agreed to pursue continuing education opportunities, improve communication with district staff and the community, and monitor and improve the safety and quality of education and cost effectiveness of the school district. The school board hopes to pursue those goals during the next year as part of a continuing plan to improve the way board operates.
Wednesday's meeting was the second in a series of sessions designed to allow the board to evaluate how it operates and to discuss improvements it can make to meet its goals.
A third meeting is to be scheduled for next month. All of the sessions are open to the public.
To continue educating themselves, board members agreed to complete at least 10 hours of training a year. They also plan to create a monthly newsletter, which will include information about action taken during monthly school board meetings.
They plan to conduct an annual & quot;State of the Schools & quot; meeting, during which they will inform the public of what's going on in the school district.
The board also plans to explore ways it can provide teachers and administrators, in a cost-effective way, the appropriate tools to educate pupils.
