MERCER Man sentenced in beating
MERCER, Pa. -- A man was sentenced to serve up to six years in prison for a beating that left another man blinded in one aye and partially deaf in one ear.
Judge Michael Wherry of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Matthew Pumphrey, 19, of Charleston Road, Sharpsville, to 18 months to six years for aggravated assault in the Dec. 6, 2001, beating with a baseball bat in Oak Leaf Estates in Shenango Township. Pumphrey was sentenced Wednesday.
Carletis Williams, 33, of Washington Street, Farrell, was sentenced to six to 24 months for felony aggravated assault and 10 years' probation for felony criminal trespassing for assaulting a woman who had a protection order against him.
Authorities said Williams broke in a door at 2:16 a.m. June 24 at a Fruit Avenue residence in Farrell, grabbed the woman and tried to punch her. He struck a police officer who arrived.
Other sentencings
Melissa Arbogast, 30, of West Slater Road, Clarks Mills, was sentenced to four to 12 months for theft by deception and ordered to make restitution to Dollar General Store on Mercer Road, Sandy Lake, where she stole $3,000 between Dec. 8, 2001, and Feb. 8 through false transactions.
Bryan Buccelli, 24, of Winslow Avenue, New Castle, was sentenced to one to two years in jail and ordered to make restitution for theft for snatching a purse with $70 in it from a woman March 18 at County Market on state Route 58 in Pine Township.
Carrie Logan, 31, formerly of Belpre, Ohio, was placed on five years' probation and ordered to make restitution for the burglary of a Sharon-Mercer Road residence in Lackawannock Township on Oct. 29, 2001.
Larry Mitchell, 33, of Beaver Falls, was sentenced to 12 to 30 months for robbery for taking $2,000 from a motorist at Roemer Boulevard and Indiana Avenue in Farrell on Dec. 14, 2000.
Richard Zocco, 23, of Woodview Drive, Transfer, was sentenced to one to three years for aggravated assault and ordered to make restitution for punching and stabbing a man Aug. 11, 2001, at South Race and Main Streets, Greenville.
