Book to detail Irish American heritage
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Irish American Archival Society of the Greater Mahoning Valley has begun work on a project to preserve the stories and history of the Irish Americans who made their homes in the Mahoning Valley over the past 200 years.
The group plans to produce a book to be published in 2003 to coincide with Ohio's bicentennial celebration.
The book will memorialize the contributions of the Irish to the Valley's history and attempt to include the contributions of all descendants of Irish immigrants -- from the earliest who were primarily from Northern Ireland to the later wave that came from all areas of Ireland during the potato blights.
Topics will include culture, politics, labor, public service, organizations and contributions to businesses and industries.
