Elimination of certified professional days, which includes the cost of a substitute teacher and the registration fee, $11,100
Administration mileage cut: $2,311
Holding the district's 79 teachers to a wage freeze for one year when their three-year contract expires June 30, savings: $170,270
Holding the 30 classified personnel to a wage freeze for one year when their three-year contract expires July 15: $22,271
A wage freeze for 12 administrative and nonunion employees: $17,201
Cut in overtime for custodians: $35,239
Cut secretarial overtime: $868
Cutting field trips, savings: $32,751
Change class times at Seaborn Elementary to save on bus drivers' wages and benefits: $11,120
Eliminating the $80 per-meeting pay of each of five board members, $5,472 from July to Dec. 31.
The district is waiting to see what its actual gasoline savings will be before a final decision is made on whether it will switch to a community purchasing agent. The district spent just under $17,000 last year on fuel costs for an estimated 15,500 gallons of gasoline during the 2001 to 2002 school year, Lewis said.
