Boardman's Ford picked by SVC
Dan Ford, a 6-foot, 185-pound junior quarterback and defensive back at Boardman High, was named Steel Valley Conference player of the week.
Ford led the Spartans to a 10-9 victory over Cardinal Mooney, passing for 150 yards (10-for-15) and one touchdown. He also rushed for 45 yards, and on defense, had a pass interception and five hits.

* NEW YORK -- Strong safety Rodney Harrison formally appealed his one-game suspension on Monday, meeting for one hour with Jeff Pash, the NFL's executive vice president and league counsel.
Harrison, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, was suspended for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Oakland's Jerry Rice. He brought with him video clips that he said prove he didn't hit Rice helmet-first.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Don King repeatedly insisted in testimony that he told rival boxing promoter Bob Arum about his exclusive rights to Julio Cesar Chavez before the fighter jumped ship.
King is seeking more than $14 million in damages to compensate him for the loss of profits from Chavez fights while the boxer was working for Arum's Las Vegas-based Top Rank Inc.

SYDNEY, Australia -- Australian swimming star Ian Thorpe took out restraining orders against a man and a woman who have stalked him near his home and training pool.
A Sydney couple was charged in February with stalking the 20-year-old world and Olympic champion after leaving notes containing fashion advice and invitations for dinner on the windshield of his car.
