DIVISION I
Who: Poland (15-3-1) vs. Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit (17-0-2).
Game time: 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Cuyahoga Falls.
Other semifinal: Mentor (15-2-2) vs. Massillon Jackson (14-2-3) at Ravenna High School, 7 p.m.
Regional final: Saturday at Ravenna High School at 3 p.m.
Notebook: Coach Jim Sutman has the Bulldogs winning their close games. In the district semifinal Poland beat Canfield 2-1 then they edged Howland 3-2 in overtime in the district final. Poland's last trip to the regional came in 1999, also under Sutman. Brit Davis is the top offensive threat with 23 goals, while Krista Ginnetti has 11 goals, including the game-winner against Howland. Both are juniors. Senior Taryn Carlson, who scored against Howland, turned in 13 assists this year and was picked the district player of the year by the coaches association. Four seniors form the cornerstone of the Poland defense -- Megan Bair, Mary Sutcliffe, Audrie Plant and Laura Mauer. Junior Landry Yankle will be in goal. After winning the last two Div. II state titles, Walsh Jesuit moved to Div. I this year. The Warriors, coached by Dino McIntyre, are led by seniors Amy May and Kelly Sheehy and were ranked first in the state. Walsh Jesuit beat Padua in a shootout 2-1 to win the district title when sophomore goalie Victoria Schnell stopped two shots.
DIVISION II
Who: Hubbard (16-3) vs. Bay Village Bay (15-2-2).
Game time: 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lyndhurst Brush High School.
Other semifinal: Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (14-4-1) vs. Chagrin Falls (11-5-3) at Westlake High School, 7 p.m.
Regional final: Saturday at Cuyahoga Falls Christian Academy, Cuyahoga Falls at 3 p.m.
Notebook: Hubbard is in the regional for the fourth consecutive season under coach Dennis Smith, a 12-year veteran. Hubbard defeated Champion 3-0 in a shootout to win the district title after tying 2-2 in regulation. Christina Adams and Mary Newberry scored goals against the Flashes in regulation in the district final. Senior Jami Duvall leads the Eagle attack with 36 goals this season and 72 for her career. Junior Brittany McKee is a standout at sweeper. Senior Anna DeJulio has 10 goals but junior defender Adrienne Wolf had ACL surgery last week and is out. Lynle Cornell, who stopped two shots in the shootout win over Champion, is a veteran in goal. The Eagles gave up 16 goals in 19 matches. Bay returns eight starters from last fall's team which also was in the regional. Three seniors lead Bay -- midfielder Angela Sanson, defender Katie Pell and forward Lizbee Barth. Gale Fisk coaches the Rockets. Bay was ranked second in the state and Hubbard sixth. Maggie Pugliese scored in the second half as Bay beat Elyria Catholic 1-0 to capture the district crown.
