Campbell man facesa charge of robbery
LIBERTY -- A 30-year-old Campbell man was scheduled to be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court on a charge of robbery.
Scott Alan Johnson of Morley Avenue was in Trumbull County Jail this morning after being arrested in a robbery Monday of Payday Cash Advance, 3950 Belmont Ave.
Employees reported a man walked in about 5 p.m. wearing black clothing and a Halloween mask. They gave him an undetermined amount of cash.
Patrol Officer Pete DeAngelo reported that he noticed a car speeding along Belmont and the driver was wearing black clothing.
Police gave chase until Johnson's car crashed into a ravine. Police found black clothing and $3,904 in the car. The police report does not list the mask as being recovered.
Meeting rescheduled
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have changed the date of their regular meeting for November from Nov. 12 to Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the township administration building.
Trustees will hold a public hearing on revisions to township zoning requiring more green space for commercial and industrial districts.
Students' dismissal
NILES -- Niles McKinley High School students will be released at 12:02 p.m. Friday, the final day of the first nine-week grading period.
The school will follow the early-bird schedule of first through sixth period. Buses will transport students home at the end of the school day.
Events, contest to markAmerica Recycles Day
WARREN -- Local celebrations of America Recycles Day are set for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Eastwood Mall.
Displays will feature recycling information and activities for children. There will also be contest where pupils in seventh through 12th grades can design a folder with an ARD theme, including recycling, buying recycled items or sorting recyclables. Prizes are a gift certificates to the mall. The wining artwork will be printed on folders for distribution at local schools.

Endorsement for Ryan
WARREN -- The National Treasury Employees Union, which represents 155,000 federal employees, is endorsing the candidacy of Democrat Timothy J. Ryan of Niles in the 17th Congressional District race.
The union represents government workers in the IRS, U.S. Customers Service, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Health and Human Services, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Hershey Cocoa stolen
SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- Someone stole 960 8-ounce cans of Hershey Cocoa from a truck at a truck stop on Billy-Boyd Road in New Vernon Township. Pennsylvania State Police said the thief cut a padlock on a Shaffer Trucking trailer around 3 p.m. Monday and removed five cartons of the cocoa cans. Loss is estimated at $1,800.
Traffic lights shot out
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are searching for vandals who used a handgun twice in the past week to shoot out traffic lights at Himrod Avenue and Fruit Street.
City employees were called to repair the lights Friday and again Sunday, police reports state.
