HUBBARD -- Police from Hubbard and Liberty are investigating the theft of $1,000 from an East Park Avenue woman. The 82-year-old victim told police she was approached by two women as she entered her vehicle Friday afternoon at Liberty Plaza. They told the victim they had found $60,000 and were willing to split it with her but needed $1,000 from her upfront to pay an attorney to trace the serial numbers on the money. The victim drove the two women to the Metropolitan Bank, where she withdrew the money and gave it to them. She told police she was to wait in a nearby parking lot while the women went to Taco Bell on Belmont Avenue. When they had not returned after an hour, she contacted Hubbard police.
Report of intimidation
HUBBARD -- Robert Paterniti, director of public safety, called police Friday morning to tell them a woman known to him had called and attempted to intimidate him in his duties. No other details were available from police this morning.
Archery, gun meetings
VIENNA -- The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers will have organizational meetings Friday and Nov. 15. Times both days are 5 p.m. for archery and 6:30 for firearms. The meetings will be in the Vienna Fish and Game Club on state Route 193, across from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. Regular Pioneer meetings are the first and third Fridays of each month, January through May. Children 9 through 18 and their parents are invited. The 4-H club emphasizes safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment, development of self-esteem, ethical behavior and strengthening families through lifelong recreational activities. Cause undetermined
SHARON, Pa. -- Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of a blaze at 438 Tamplin St. The vacant home caught fire at about 3:58 a.m. Sunday. The house is owned by William Day of Sharon, firefighters said.
Robbed at carwash
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A woman waiting to wash her car was robbed at knifepoint. Police said the 30-year-old woman was waiting for a stall to open at the Bubble Bear Car Wash on Taylor Street when three men approached her car. She told police one man put a knife to her neck and demanded her money. She gave them $48, and they ran off, police said.
Wounded in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon Holt and his girlfriend, Patreese Hankins, both of Columbus, were in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being shot Sunday afternoon on the South Side. Holt, 28, told police that he and his girlfriend had followed a woman who was supposed to get them some "weed," reports show. They drove to Delason Avenue near Bellview Avenue, pulled in front of the woman's car, then were hit by gunfire from a third car that sped by. Hankins, 27, wasn't able to supply police with any information.
Campbell man killed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A one-car crash on the Madison Avenue expressway just before 4 a.m. Sunday killed a Campbell man, police said. The victim's name was not immediately available. The victim hit a guardrail, then a utility pole at the U.S. Route 422 overpass a quarter-mile before the Crescent Street exit ramp, police said. The impact of the crash cut the car, a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora, in half and ejected the driver, police said.
