3 injured in crashin Beaver County
BEAVER, Pa. -- Three people were injured in a head-on crash on Red Dog Road in Greene Township, Beaver County.
Pennsylvania State Police said Michelle Hughes, 37, of Wellsville, Ohio, was traveling north at 4:10 p.m. Saturday when she crossed into oncoming traffic.
Police said the other driver, John L. Gillespie, 47, of Georgetown, Pa., tried to avoid the crash. Gillespie was flown to UPMC in Pittsburgh, where he was in fair condition this morning.
Hughes and her passenger, David R. Hughes, 13, of Georgetown, Pa., were treated at East Liverpool Hospital.
Car strikes house
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- State police said a driver apparently fell asleep just before his car crashed into a house at McConnell's Mill and Eckert Bridge roads early Saturday.
Christopher Gardner, 19, of R.D. 4, New Castle, was treated at St. Francis Hospital. No one inside the house was injured, police said.
Fires investigated
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Authorities are investigating two weekend fires termed suspicious.
Fire Chief James Donston said 1012 Liberty St. caught fire at about 5:12 a.m. Sunday. It appears the blaze started in the front door area.
Firefighters fought a second blaze Sunday at 1201 South Mill St. Donston said the fire started in the window area above the front door of the former Bukowski Florist Shop at 9:59 a.m. That building is vacant, he said.
Cause undetermined
SHARON, Pa. -- Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of a blaze at 438 Tamplin St. The vacant home caught fire at about 3:58 a.m. Sunday.
The house is owned by William Day of Sharon, firefighters said.
Robbed at carwash
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A woman waiting to wash her car was robbed at knife point. Police said the 30-year-old woman was waiting for a stall to open at the Bubble Bear Car Wash on Taylor Street when three men approached her.
She told police one man put a knife to her neck and demanded her money. She gave them $48, and they ran off, police said.
Wounded in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon Holt and his girlfriend, Patreese Hankins, both of Columbus, were in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being shot Sunday afternoon on the South Side.
Holt, 28, told police that he and his girlfriend had followed a woman who was supposed to get them some "weed," reports show. They drove to Delason Avenue near Bellview Avenue, pulled in front of the woman's car, then were hit by gunfire from a third car that sped by.
Hankins, 27, wasn't able to supply police with any information.
Campbell man killedin one-car accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- A one-car crash on the Madison Avenue expressway just before 4 a.m. Sunday killed a Campbell man, police said. The victim's name was not immediately available.
The victim's vehicle hit a guardrail then a utility pole at the U.S. Route 422 overpass a quarter-mile before the Crescent Street exit ramp, police said.
The impact of the crash cut the car, a1997 Oldsmobile Aurora, in half and ejected the driver, police said.
