MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Miami's run defense had yet another poor showing, so Ken Dorsey came to the rescue with his best game ever.
Dorsey threw for a career-high 422 yards and two touchdowns as top-ranked Miami defeated stubborn West Virginia 40-23 Saturday.
He set school career records for completions (564), yards passing (8,024) and total offense (7,981), all previously set by Gino Torretta from 1989-92.
Except for two career categories, Dorsey now has surpassed Heisman Trophy winners Torretta and Vinny Testaverde, along with Bernie Kosar, Craig Erickson and Steve Walsh.
The Hurricanes (7-0, 3-0 Big East) pulled away from a 17-all third-quarter tie to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 29 games.
No. 3 Virginia Tech 20, Temple 10
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Quarterback Bryan Randall is almost an afterthought for No. 3 Virginia Tech. Not Saturday.
Temple shut down standout tailbacks Kevin Jones and Lee Suggs, so Randall made perhaps the biggest play of the season when he hit Doug Easlick for a 32-yard touchdown on the last play of the third quarter to help the Hokies.
The Hokies (8-0, 3-0 Big East), whose offense has been dominated by Suggs and Jones, led only 10-3 when Randall hit Easlick over the middle as he crossed into the end zone.
The Owls (3-5, 1-2), who posted one of the biggest upsets in school history when they beat the Hokies 28-24 here in 1998, packed the line on defense, intent on stopping Suggs and Jones and making Randall beat them.
No. 5 Georgia 52, Kentucky 24
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- David Greene and D.J. Shockley combined to throw a school-record six touchdown passes as No. 5 Georgia remained unbeaten.
The Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0 SEC) won easily despite playing without leading rusher Musa Smith, second-leading receiver Fred Gibson and senior offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb, all of whom were injured last week against Vanderbilt. Georgia's offense didn't miss a beat, producing 529 total yards and scoring 31 unanswered points in the second half. Kentucky (5-3, 1-3) lost to a top-10 opponent for the 40th straight time.
No. 7 Texas 21, No. 17 Iowa St. 10
AUSTIN, Texas -- Cedric Benson ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns and No. 7 Texas contained Seneca Wallace. Benson shook off a lingering turf toe injury and the Longhorns (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) revived their punishing ground game in their 17th straight win at home.
Benson had 30 carries, and his 59-yard TD gave Texas a 14-10 lead in the third quarter.
Auburn 31, No. 10 LSU 7
AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn's offense made the big plays when it needed them most. The defense dominated up front and forced five turnovers.
Auburn's performance featured everything the Tigers (5-3, 3-2 SEC) had failed to do in their previous two games, when they gave up 68 combined points in losses to Arkansas and Florida. LSU's Tigers (6-2, 3-1) managed just 242 total yards. Quarterback Marcus Randall threw four interceptions -- including three in his first five passes -- and completed just 9 of 20 for 79 yards.
No. 15 Southern Cal 44,No. 14 Oregon 33
EUGENE, Ore. -- Carson Palmer threw for 448 yards and matched a school record with five touchdown passes to pace USC.
After an upset loss to Arizona State last Saturday, any aspirations Oregon (6-2, 2-2 Pac-10) had for the Rose Bowl are likely dashed. However, Southern California (6-2, 4-1) stays in the conference title hunt for a trip to Pasadena. The Trojans snapped a four-game losing streak against Oregon.
No. 19 Alabama 34,No. 16 Tennessee 14
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Santonio Beard ran for two touchdowns, and Alabama took advantage of six turnovers to end its seven-game losing streak to Tennessee. The Crimson Tide (6-2, 3-1 SEC) hadn't beaten Tennessee (4-3, 1-3) since 1994, when former Volunteers quarterback Peyton Manning was a freshman.
No. 20 Kansas St. 44, Baylor 10
WACO, Texas -- Darren Sproles ran for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead Kansas State.
Sproles is the first Kansas State running back in 29 years with four straight 100-yard games. The only Kansas State runner with more than four straight 100-yard games is Isaac Jackson, who had six straight in 1973.
Randy Jordan returned a blocked field goal 93 yards for a touchdown, and Sproles ran for a 12-yard score in the second half for Kansas State (6-2, 2-2 Big 12). Baylor (3-5, 1-3) lost its third straight game but scored for the first time in that stretch. The Bears were outscored 75-0 in their last two games after scoring 11 points in the final two minutes Oct. 5 to beat Kansas 35-32 and end their 29-game Big 12 losing streak.
No. 21 Colorado 37, Texas Tech 13
BOULDER, Colo. -- Facing one of college football's most prolific passers, Colorado's defense made the bigger plays.
Safety Medford Moorer intercepted a Kliff Kingsbury pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown, and tackle Tyler Brayton returned Kingsbury's fumble 14 yards for another score to lead the No. 21 Buffaloes.
Chris Brown ran for 149 yards and a touchdown, and Robert Hodge passed for two scores as Colorado (6-2, 4-0 Big 12) overcame critical penalties to post its fifth straight victory. Colorado scored the last 27 points after Tech took a 13-10 lead in the second quarter.
Wyoming 34, No. 22 Air Force 26
LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Casey Bramlet passed for 387 yards and two touchdowns as Wyoming pulled off its biggest victory in years. The Cowboys (2-6, 1-2 Mountain West Conference) had lost 14 of their last 15 games, with the only victory coming against The Citadel, a Division I-AA team. Wyoming also had dropped 17 straight conference games over four seasons.
