REGIONAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL Mt. Union jars Capital, goes to 7-0

COLUMBUS -- Dan Pugh rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns and Rob Adamson threw for three touchdowns as Mount Union beat Capital 38-22 Saturday.
Pugh rushed for touchdowns of 18 and 2 yards and Adamson threw touchdown passes of 51 and 31 yards to Derrick Leach and 16 yards to Randell Knapp for the Purple Raiders (7-0, 6-0 Ohio Conference).
Rayshaun Gales led the Crusaders (5-2, 5-1 OAC) with 57 yards rushing and a touchdown. Danny Edghill threw for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Capital was held to 205 yards of offense, and Mount Union took a 38-8 lead before Edghill threw two late touchdowns. He threw a 9-yard touchdown to Matt Friesner with 25 seconds to play in the third quarter and a 30-yard touchdown to Kyle Sellers with 8:26 to play.

Kenyon 22, Hiram 14
GAMBIER -- Calvin Hatfield rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns as Kenyon beat Hiram 22-14 Saturday in a matchup of winless teams.
Hatfield scored on two 1-yard runs, the second of which gave the Lords (1-7, 1-4 North Coast Conference) a 16-10 lead with 10:28 remaining in the third quarter. Brad Noojin, who hit on 11-of-24 passes for 124 yards, threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brendan McNamara in the fourth for Kenyon.
Tim Anderson led the Terriers (0-7, 0-4) with 205 yards rushing on 32 carries. Hiram's Max Kravitz completed 13-of-31 passes for 126 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown to Niarchos Kincai. He also was intercepted three times.
Allegheny 50, Denison 16
GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Bubba Smith threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Allegheny beat Denison 50-16 Saturday.
Smith completed 17-of-18 passes for 258 yards, including first-half touchdown passes of 26 and 27 yards to Luke Pelger. His 54-yard touchdown pass to Casey Devlin gave the Gators (3-4, 2-2 in the North Coast Conference) a 26-10 lead early in the second half.
Smith rushed for 91 yards on nine carries, including a 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Josh Jirgens caught eight passes for 109 yards for the Big Red (1-6, 1-3 NCAC), including a 26-yard touchdown pass from John Stoll in the second quarter. Stoll completed 20-of-40 passes for 208 yards, but was intercepted four times.
Ryan Hite's 5-yard touchdown catch in the third set a school record with 20 career touchdowns.
Slippery Rock 7, Edinboro 3
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Josh Kniess rushed for 118 yards and the only touchdown as Slippery Rock beat Edinboro 7-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Kniess' 1-yard run with 11:41 left in the second quarter finished a three-play, 40-yard drive set up by a failed fake punt by Edinboro.
Despite three interceptions by Jeff Valentino, the Rockets (5-3, 2-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West) won by holding the Fighting Scots (3-5 0-4) to seven first downs and Alonzo Roebuck to 35 yards.
Roebuck had rushed for at least 100 yards in his last four games.
Edinboro's only points came on Geoff Heyl's 20-yard field goal in the third quarter. Heyl had a 33-yard attempt blocked by linebacker Dan Woodard with 4:38 to play.

Walsh 31, Geneva 7
NORTH CANTON -- Derek Besgrove ran for a school-record 317 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Walsh to a 31-7 victory over Geneva.
Besgrove scored on runs of 71 yards in the first quarter and four yards in the fourth while becoming the first Cavaliers player to rush for 300 yards in a game.
Besgrove, who had 40 carries, accounted for all but 48 of Walsh's total yards of offense. The Cavaliers (7-1, 3-1 Mid-States) got only 10 yards passing from Winston Woods, who went 2-of-13 with an interception.
Trailing 10-0, Geneva (3-5, 1-3) pulled within three points on Ben Swallow's 29-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Moss with 6:18 left in the third quarter. Walsh scored 21 points in the fourth quarter on Darryl Lions' 53-yard interception return, Besgrove's second touchdown and Jeremy Werner's 19-yard TD run -- his only carry in the game.

BETHANY, W. Va. -- Senior running back Will Anderson rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns and senior quarterback Jeremy Lacaria rushed for 108 yards and scored and also tahrew for 177 more as bethany College posted a 31-9 victory over Thiel College Saturday.
Bethany (1-4) recorded its first victory in the Presidents Athletic Conference and improved to 2-6 overall.
Donte Harris caught a 5-yard TD pass from Daryl Moore and Paul Stibich kicked a 28-yard field goal for Thiel (3-5, 2-3).

CANTON -- Eric Rector threw four touchdown passes and ran 49 yards for a score, all in the second quarter, as Malone beat Urbana 52-10 Saturday in the Mideast League.
Rector ran for 83 yards and completed 14 of 20 passes for 190 yards, including TD passes of 2, 5 and 7 yards to Blake Renner and 19 yards to Joel Peterson as Malone widened a 3-0 lead to 38-3 at halftime.
Peterson added a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Sean Knight ran 2 yards in the fourth quarter for another score.
