KEYSTONE CLIPS Rooting on the Steelers is agenda

After the invocation by school Director Victor Ellenberger to open Monday's Hermitage School Board meeting, school Director Gene Martuccio added his own postscript. "Go Steelers," Martuccio said aloud, a reference to the football game the Steelers were playing later that night. "You probably should have added that to the prayer," Ellenberger quipped. Regardless of the timing, it apparently worked. The Steelers won.
Appeal
The Lakeview Area Helping Hands Center Inc. in Stoneboro, Mercer County, has issued an appeal for community support for its fourth annual Spirit of the Holiday Season campaign for its food pantry. The pantry provided a complete Thanksgiving dinner for 97 families and Christmas dinners for 99 families last year. A donation of $20 will provide both a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for one family. Checks may be made payable to "Helping Hands Food Pantry," 51 Lake St., P.O. Box 145, Stoneboro, Pa., 16153.
Support
The United Way of Mercer County will launch its second annual "Blitz Day" drive to solicit support for its fall campaign. Volunteers will gather at First National Bank in Hermitage Square on East State Street at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 and fan out through the community, visiting local businesses over a three-hour period seeking contributions for the fund drive. Those who contribute will receive a special United Way static sticker for their business. The campaign is seeking $1,150,000 this year.
Voters
There should be more voters out in Lawrence County come Nov. 5. The county board of elections reports that 1,064 new people have registered to vote since the spring primary. Elections director Marlene Gabriel credits the gubernatorial race and the referendum concerning county government for the influx of new voters.
