Volleyball teamloses to CSU Vikings
CLEVELAND -- Michelle Iafigliola had 21 kills and 11 digs asCleveland State's volleyball team beat Youngstown State in four games Friday.
The Vikings defeated the Penguins 30-27, 30-19, 22-30, 30-19.
For YSU (8-16, 0-8 Horizon League), Colleen Royer and Annie Buschur each had 11 kills, Angie Pasquinelli put up 33 sets, while Melanie Pounders added 17 digs.
Gabby Ferrell also had 11 digs and Pasquinelli tacked on 10 digs.
Women's soccerteam beaten, 5-0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mandi Lasky had two goals while Tanya Tiselj, Jessica Barrett and Judith Atwood had one apiece as the University of Detroit-Mercy defeated Youngstown State, 5-0, in women's soccer Friday night at Stambaugh Stadium.
The Titans outshot the Penguins, 24-4, with YSU's freshman keeper, Caitlin Bestard, getting 12 saves.
YSU fell to 1-15 overall and 0-4 Horizon while UDM is 6-7-4 overall and 2-2-2.

Ulrey winssoccer shootout
SPRINGFIELD -- Noah Ulrey, 7, of Uniopolis, Ohio, finished fourth in the U-7 age group at the Elks Ohio State Soccer Shootout.
Noah qualified by winning the Wapakoneta Elks Shootout in May and the West Central Ohio District Shootout in Upper Sandusky.
Noah is the grandson of Mrs. Elsie Kostyo of Poland.
Lauren Bachingerat Cincinnati
CINCINNATI -- Lauren Bachinger, a 2002 graduate of Ursuline High, is bowling at the University of Cincinnati.
Bachinger finished fifth in a tournament held recently in Dayton. She was in 25th place going into the last three games, but she bowled 220, 267 and 203 for a 690 set to finish fifth. The Bearcats finished eighth in the tournament, which was held at Beaver-vu Lanes.
The Bearcats will compete in the Kent State Invitational on Nov. 2-3 at Twin Star Lanes.
Kucek to speak
WARREN -- Former Chicago White Sox pitcher Jack Kucek will be the guest speaker at the Trumbull County All Athletics Sports Club meeting Monday.
The event will be at the Ground Round Restaurant on Elm Road, beginning with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m.

Tuminello honored
TOLEDO -- Boardman native and University of Toledo student Chris Tuminello was named the Mid-American Conference male scholar athlete of the week.
A senior center on the Rocket football team, Tuminello has a 3.93 GPA in civil engineering.
He helped the Rockets gain 300 yards rushing and 497 total offense in a 27-24 win over Central Florida.
Mahoning Valley racing
NELSON LEDGES -- The Mahoning Valley region of the Sports Car Club of America held its annual Golden Harvest regional race at Nelson Ledges Road Course.
Bill Pintaric, Jr. of Liberty won in the GT4 class and Nick Doinoff of Boardman drove a Volkswagen to win the ITB class.
Casaba Bujdoso of Canfield, driving a Camaro in A Sedan, won. Also Bill Kamser of Berlin Center won in the Sports2000 class Saturday and finished second Sunday.
JCC hoops leaguesbegin in November
YOUNGSTOWN -- The co-ed Junior NBA and Junior WNBA basketball leagues will begin play at the local Jewish Community Center in November.
There is a K-2nd grade league playing Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. as well as a 3rd-6th grade league playing Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.
