YOUNGSTOWN Man gets 10 years for 2001 robbery

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Youngstown man who held an imitation firearm to the head of a woman during a robbery at the Terrace Motel in Boardman in December 2001 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Edmund L. Johnson, 36, of East Lucius Avenue was convicted of aggravated robbery this week by a jury in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Judge James C. Evans sentenced him Thursday.
The woman lived at the hotel with her husband, who managed the Market Street business.
He said they were awakened at about 3:30 a.m. by the customer bell in the lobby. His wife went to answer the bell but was heard screaming a short time later.
The manager went down to the lobby, followed by his 17-year-old son. A 13-year-old son remained asleep upstairs.
Johnson demanded money, but was overtaken by the man and his son, who pinned him to the floor until township police arrived.
