NESHANNOCK, Pa. -- A former Neshannock School administrator is coming back to the district.
The board hired Mark Ferrara as supervisor of curriculum and instruction for $79,500 during a special meeting Thursday night.
Ferrara now serves as principal of George Jr. Republic in Grove City, Pa.
The Masury, Ohio, resident served as assistant principal at Neshannock from 1995 through 1999. Ferrara also was a teacher in the Hermitage School District for 15 years.
This is the second person the board has hired for the supervisor of curriculum and instruction position in the past two weeks.
Paul Makarevich was hired at the Oct. 10 meeting and was scheduled to begin in November. Superintendent Dr. Michael Hink said Makarevich turned in his resignation Oct. 18.
Hink said that Makarevich stated in his letter of resignation that he is leaving education to pursue work in the private sector.
Board members Richard Canciello, Joseph Gierlach, James Kearney Jr., Frank Rondinelli and Tracy Stevenson voted in favor of Ferrara. Dr. John Dietz and Karen Houk voted no. Board members Gina Hennon and Walter Kustra were absent.
Dietz said that although Ferrara is a fine individual, he did not want to rush the situation.
"We have been accused of making quick decisions in the past, and I'm a little gun-shy," he said. "I would like to take some more time to do some background searches."
