YOUNGSTOWN Teenager arrested in slaying

A witness said the victim was shot when he bent over to hook up a video game.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old Chaney High School student has been arrested in the shooting death of a Falls Avenue man.
The victim, Jason L. Jackson, 22, was shot once in the head around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at 544 W. Glenaven Avenue and later died at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police found Jackson on the living room floor.
Moments after the shooting, a description of the suspect and the car he was driving was broadcast over police radio.
The investigation led police to a house on West Princeton Avenue, where they arrested Durrell L. Jones, 16. Reports show Jones' address as West Princeton.
He was taken to the juvenile justice center just before 11 p.m.
Witness
A witness told police that Jackson and Jones had been wrestling over a gun and Jones got control of it and shot Jackson.
An Austintown man who had been in the house when the shooting occurred said Jackson was shot when he bent over to hook up a PlayStation game. The witness, who ran out of the house, told police he was shot at as he ran.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, said Capt. Robert Kane, chief of detectives. Detective Sgts. John Kelty and Pat Kelly are investigating. Kelty said today that according to Jones, Jackson had made prior threats and Jones believed he had to get to Jackson before Jackson got to him.
Kelty questioned, though, why the victim would let Jones into the house if he thought there was bad blood between them.
The detective said he would file the charge today after conferring with a juvenile prosecutor.
