TRUMBULL COUNTY Trustees: Expand water system

Consumers Water is offering a $4 million capital improvement investment for expansion of the current water system.
Township trustees in Liberty and Weathersfield have enacted resolutions asking Trumbull County commissioners to expand the townships' public water supply system to provide a safe and reliable water source to all residents.
The resolution was approved in a special meeting Tuesday with affirmative votes from Liberty Trustee Chairman Patrick F. Durina and Trustee Jack Simon, with Trustee W. Gary Litch absent.
Weathersfield trustees Fred Bobovnyk and James Price also approved a similar measure there Tuesday.
The Trumbull County Trustees Association supported negotiation of an agreement between the county and Consumers Water for the company to operate and maintain all the county's water systems.
The proposal calls for the commissioners to accept a proposal from Consumers Water Co., Sharon, Pa., or show cause why it should be rejected, or otherwise offer the same provisions as the company's proposal.
Commissioners were expected to receive the resolutions at their meeting today.
Company's offer
Consumers is offering a $4 million capital improvement investment for expansion of the current water system without tap-in fees or special assessments for users, a 7.5 percent rate reduction followed by a four-year rate freeze, and a revolving capital improvement fund for future system expansion, the Liberty trustees' resolution says.
Parts of Liberty receive water from Youngstown, Girard and current Consumers supply lines.
Bobovnyk said that Consumers Water, which already is looking at supplying water to four townships in the eastern part of the county, including Brookfield and Greene townships, could help other townships obtain city water for their residents.
Bobovnyk added that whenever townships approach cities to ask for water, they are usually told to annex if they want the service.
Consumers is a public utilities service, and operates water systems in Boardman, Canfield, Sharon and Beaver Township locally, and also in Mansfield.
