STRUTHERS School will add wellness center
Letters of resignation were accepted from several school employees planning to retire.

STRUTHERS -- The board of education has authorized the superintendent to advertise for bids for a Wellness Center to be added to the new high school.
The center will include a classroom, fitness/weight room, locker room, showers and offices.
Refinancing
The board also approved a resolution to refinance the district's outstanding school improvement bonds from 1992. The bonds are due to mature Dec. 1, 2014, and are valued at $1.75 million. They were used to fund renovations and construction of an addition at the Fifth Street Elementary School to create a middle school.
Other action Tuesday included appointing Pamela Jones long-term substitute teacher at Sexton Street School; authorizing the Superintendent Dr. Sandra J. DiBacco to recall from layoff Crystal Prater, instructional aid; and accepting letters of resignation from several employees, some of whom are planning to retire.
The board accepted letters of resignation from William Kohl, boys basketball trainer, effective immediately; JoAnn Stoops, Struthers High School secretary, for retirement effective Jan. 1, 2003; Paulette Kirby, cafeteria manager, and Ruth Bohn, print and resource secretary, for retirement effective July 1, 2003; Donna Labuda, Struthers High School cafeteria technician, for retirement March 1, 2003; and John Lucansky, Struthers Middle School custodian, for retirement effective Jan. 30, 2003.
Extra duties
Supplemental duties were assigned to Michael Donatelli, head baseball coach; John Corey, boys basketball trainer; Jean Dundee, adviser, medical careers club; and Sharon Chiaberta, department head, high school and middle school math.
The board also accepted a donation from Mardin J. and Sandra M. Colburn for the following high school activities: choir, $250; track, bowling, cheerleading, cross country and drama club, $50 each; future teachers, $100; and band, $500.
