BOARDMAN -- Youngstown State defeated St. Bonaventure 4-3 at the Boardman Tennis Center Monday.
The Penguins won the doubles point and split the six singles matches.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State fell to Toledo 6-0, sending the Penguins' record to 1-14.
The Rockets out-shot the Penguins 26-7. Toledo is 7-6-2.

Malie named by SVC
YOUNGSTOWN -- Patsy Malie, senior running back at Cardinal Mooney High, was named Steel Valley Conference football player of the week for his performance in the Cardinals' 17-14 victory over Ursuline.
Malie rushed for 250 yards and one touchdown.
Columbiana winschampionship
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Little Clipper junior varsity football team defeated the Crestview Little Rebels 16-0 Saturday to finish the season undefeated at 8-0.
Crestview ended the season at 6-2, only losing to Columbiana in the regular season.
Quarterback Jonathon Ritchey scored both TDs on runs of 1 yard and 42 yards and threw to Josh Saverko for one extra point, while Grant Crider ran for the other.
Crider led the defense with 5.5 tackles, while Ritchey and Nick Melone both had four tackles. Melone also recovered a Crestview fumble.
The Columbiana JVs, for their first time, won back-to-back championships and have won the JV championship three of the last four years.
Columbiana's first team defense did not allow a point all season and ended the season outscoring their opponents 219-46 while rushing for 1,522 yards in eight games.
Ritchey ended the season completing 64 percent of his passes with no interceptions, while Crider had 10 TDs and nine extra-point conversions.

Kirby Puckettdenies charges
MINNEAPOLIS -- Baseball Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett declared he is innocent of charges he dragged a woman into a restaurant bathroom and groped her. Puckett has a Nov. 19 pretrial hearing.

* EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Seven-foot center Soumaila Samake probably will start in place of Shaquille O'Neal when the Los Angeles Lakers open the season against San Antonio on Oct. 29.
O'Neal still is recuperating from surgery on his right toe. He has not received a doctor's clearance to play and probably will start the season on the disabled list, requiring him to sit out at least five games.
* MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves guard Felipe Lopez is expected to miss the entire season after tearing ligaments in his left knee in a game Saturday.
* DETROIT -- Detroit Pistons forward Don Reid had Achilles' tendon surgery and is out for the season.
Figure skaterfaces suspension
NEW YORK -- Three-time Olympic pairs figure skater Kyoko Ina is facing a possible lifetime suspension from the sport and a $1 million fine for refusing to take a drug test. Ina says she merely asked to have the urine test delayed a few hours.
The American Arbitration Association rejected Ina's appeal of the ruling, which could lead to the International Skating Union banning her from its events.
USOC presidenthas other thoughts
DENVER -- U.S. Olympic Committee president Marty Mankamyer wishes she had known Lloyd Ward was a member of Augusta National Golf Club before approving him as chief executive officer last year.
She said his membership to a club that excludes women could have changed several USOC votes, particularly those of female members.
Mankamyer said members of the USOC's executive committee were not aware Ward was a member of the club when they approved him as CEO last October.
Panthers' Wardsuspended for elbow
TORONTO -- Florida Panthers defenseman Lance Ward was suspended for one game without pay by the NHL for elbowing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Tyler Wright on Saturday.

* LINZ, Austria -- World No. 16 Anna Smashnova overcame a loss in the first set and beat Meghann Shaughnessy 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to reach the Generali Ladies Open second round.
