WARREN -- Police are investigating a bizarre burglary at a home in the 600 block of Chinnock Place. Reports state that someone broke into the home, which is currently being renovated, sometime Monday morning and smeared feces on the basement walls.
Scrap tire collection
BAZETTA -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will collect scrap tires from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.
Residents of Trumbull and Geauga counties may bring as many as eight tires, on or off the rim.
It is a felony to haul more than eight tires at a time without being a registered tire transporter. Call (330) 675-2673 with questions.
New meeting time
HOWLAND -- The township park district has rescheduled the time of its regular meetings to 6 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month in the township administration building.
Horror film at library
WARREN -- The silent 1926 horror film "The Bells" will be screened with live musical accompaniment at 2 p.m. Sunday at the main branch of the Warren-Trumbull Public Library. The film stars Lionel Barrymore as an innkeeper who murders a wealthy traveler only to be tormented by his conscience.
Annual St. Rose auction
GIRARD -- The St. Rose Home and School Association has its annual auction, from 6 to 11 p.m. Nov. 9 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 and bidding will begin at 7 p.m. Auctioneer will be George Roman Auctioneer & amp; Realty.

TAMPEEL bird seed sale
HOWLAND -- TAMPEEL will again sell bird seed at Howland Park, interim site for the program. The seed will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and again Dec. 7 and Jan. 18. For information on prices and seed types, call (330) 675-2800.
Model Railroad Club
SEBRING -- The Sebring Model Railroad Club will be holding its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 16, 17, 23 and 24. The club has one of the largest and most complete model railroads in Northeast Ohio and has been in existence continuously since 1948. It's at 216 E. Pennsylvania Ave., in what was originally the Pennsylvania Railroad Sebring Freight Station.
Visitors can see and hear the steam locomotives as they thunder out of the tunnels and across the bridges. Admission is $2 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free. Refreshments will be available.
Man struck by bullet
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shots fired from a car that stopped on Otis Street on Monday afternoon sailed through a bedroom window and hit two cars in the parking lot of the apartment complex, reports show. Police collected about 20 casings from two guns, a 9mm and .45-caliber. Deron Gilbert, 21, of West Judson was hit in the leg as he stood in the parking lot; he was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The owner of one of the cars happened to be inside it during the gunfire. He ducked down just as a bullet passed through his rear window and entered the headliner above his seat, police said. Police have the identity of three suspects.
SRU plans family day
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University will host a family day Saturday. The day opens with 10 a.m. registration in the Russell Wright Alumni House, followed by various activities in residence halls.
At 1 p.m., the SRU football team takes on Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in N. Kerr Stadium. The evening entertainment includes a 7 p.m. magic show by Mike Super in the student union multipurpose room. Admission is $1, but children 10 and younger are admitted free.
