Empty Bowls dinner
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Three area agencies involved in feeding the needy will benefit from this year's Empty Bowls dinner Monday at Slippery Rock University.
Held annually, the event will attempt to raise $5,000 for the City Rescue Mission in New Castle, Feed My Sheep Food Shelter in Slippery Rock and the Butler Area Agency on Aging. The bread-and-soup meal is served in handcrafted bowls made by SRU and local high school students in the University Union's multipurpose room.
The bowls are taken home at the end of the dinner to remind residents of global hunger. Seatings are planned for 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., with tickets available at the door or in advance at the campus bookstore, residence halls and Slippery Rock True Value Hardware. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for all students.
