Blue Jackets 4, Panthers 1
COLUMBUS -- Andrew Cassels scored his first goal in a Columbus uniform and added two assists as the Blue Jackets beat the Florida Panthers. Cassels joined the Blue Jackets as a free agent this summer after playing for Montreal, Hartford, Calgary and Vancouver in his first 12 years in the NHL. David Vyborny, a healthy scratch in Columbus' first two home games, and Grant Marshall each also had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Penguins 3, Lightning 3
PITTSBURGH -- Dan Boyle and right wing Martin St. Louis scored third-period goals to erase a pair of one-goal deficits and lift the unbeaten Tampa Bay Lightning into a tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins. St. Louis scored his third goal of the season by converting Brad Richards' two-on-one pass at 1:28 of the third period to make it 2-2. After Alexei Kovalev scored his second goal in as many games to restore Pittsburgh's lead at 5:49, Boyle took a pass from Ruslan Fedotenko and fired a shot past goalie Johan Hedberg from the edge of the right circle on the power play at 9:05.
Flyers 3, Capitals 1
PHILADELPHIA -- John LeClair and Simon Gagne scored 1:39 apart in the second period to lead the unbeaten Philadelphia Flyers to victory over the Washington Capitals. The Avalanche stretched their lead to 3-1 when Milan Hejduk scored into an empty net with two seconds remaining.
Islanders 5, Thrashers 4
ATLANTA -- Jason Wiemer and Claude Lapointe scored third-period goals as the New York Islanders extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a victory over the winless Atlanta Thrashers. The Islanders are 2-0-1 since dropping their first two games. Atlanta, which has surrendered 13 goals in two nights, dropped to 0-4-0-1. It is the worst five-game start in Atlanta's four seasons.
Coyotes 3, Sabres 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tony Amonte's first goal of the season and first in a Phoenix uniform helped the Coyotes snap a two-game losing streak with a victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Amonte's goal came on a deflection and broke a 1-1 tie at 5:10 of the third period. His shot was redirected in the slot by Buffalo's Denis Hamel and got by surprised goaltender Mika Noronen.
Predators 2, Rangers 2
NEW YORK -- Scottie Upshall scored a breakaway goal late in the second period to lift the winless Nashville Predators into a tie with the New York Rangers. Maple Leafs 2, Canadiens 2
MONTREAL -- Tomas Kaberle scored a short-handed goal with 8:15 left in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs tied the Montreal Canadiens. Trailing 2-1 after Montreal scored twice in the second, Kaberle took Mats Sundin's drop pass and fired a slap shot past goalie Jeff Hackett.
Hurricanes 3, Devils 1
