NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The warden of the Lawrence County Jail unexpectedly resigned this week for personal reasons.
William Hall, who has been in that post since 1993, turned in a letter of resignation on Thursday, said Lawrence County Commissioner Ed Fosnaught.
Fosnaught said Hall resigned for personal reasons but would not give any other details.
Hall could not be reached Friday afternoon to comment.
Deputy Warden Norman Micco will perform his duties until a permanent replacement is named, Fosnaught said.
Micco said Friday he could not answer any questions and directed all calls to county commissioners.
Commissioner Brian Burick, who is president of county prison board, said a special prison board meeting will be called next week to name an interim warden and talk about finding a permanent replacement.
History
According to county records, Hall, 46, started working at the jail as a corrections officer in 1981 and became assistant warden in 1991. He was named warden two years later. His salary this year is $46,162.22.
Fosnaught said Hall's resignation was effective immediately, but he will receive pay for sick and vacation days that are outstanding.
"I worked with Bill Hall for six year as president of prison board. He's an honorable man and excellent warden. I'm sorry to see him leave," Fosnaught said.
Burick said jail should continue to operate as normal with Micco in charge.
