ICL ROUNDUP Rockets clinch share of title



Lowellville pounded Western Reserve 42-0 to remain undefeated.
LOWELLVILLE -- The Lowellville High football team clinched a share of the Inter-County League title Friday with a 42-0 pounding of Western Reserve.
Andy Peterson led the Rockets (9-0, 6-0) with 203 yards rushing on 13 carries. Peterson scored the game's first two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 97 yards.
With a victory next Friday at McDonald, the Rockets will clinch the title.
Lowellville is ranked as Ohio's sixth-best Division VI team in this week's Associated Press poll. The Rockets also are the top team in Region 21 of the computer playoff ratings and will open the postseason at home.
Jeff Peterson gained 90 yards on seven carries, including touchdown runs of 34 and 6 yards.
Quarterback Mike Palumbo tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Brian Meehan.
The Rockets' defense limited the Blue Devils (2-7, 0-6) to 94 yards on 33 carries. Luke Srock led with 67 yards on 12 carries.
Springfield 35, McDonald 7
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Dan Schuler threw two touchdown passes and kicked five extra points to lead Springfield to its fifth ICL victory.
Schuler threw his TD passes to Tobey Culler of 24 and 20 yards.
Jon Vivo rushed for 152 yards on 28 carries and scored two touchdowns. Schuler finished 7-of-10 passing for 113 yards, two TDs and one interception.
McDonald (3-6, 2-4) had 78 yards rushing and 31 passing. The Blue Devils' touchdown came on a 25-yard pass from Bob Ovesny to Josh Camuso. Springfield also scored on a blocked punt. Mike Sobnosky blocked the kick and Shaun Shoemaker picked it up and ran 29 yards for the score.
Mineral Ridge 51, Mathews 9
MINERAL RIDGE -- Greg Dominic rushed for 89 yards on 10 carries.
Dominic's plays included touchdown runs of 23, 32 and 23 yards. He also returned a kickoff 89 yards for another score to triggers the Rams' (6-3, 4-2) attack.
Levi Leigh scored the first touchdown for the Rams on a 34-yard run and finished with 101 yards on nine attempts.
The Rams led the Mustangs (1-8, 0-6) 51-6 at intermission. Mathews was held to 98 rushing yards on 35 tries.
South Range 28, Jackson-Milton 7
NORTH JACKSON -- The Raiders (6-3, 4-2) scored a touchdown in each quarter to prevail.
Quarterback Ryan Maxwell rushed for 102 yards on 13 carries. He also connected on 6-of-10 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Jackson-Milton (3-6, 3-3) was limited to 101 rushing yards and Zack Nicholas hit on 6-of-21 passes for 68 yards.
All six passes were caught by Lee Keck, one of them a 11-yard TD strike from Nicholas.
