Drug-lab suspect waives hearing

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A man accused of having an illegal-drug lab in his garage waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will be scheduled for trial.
King F. Midas, 46, of Philips Way, is charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy and corruption of a minor. He also faces charges of reckless endangering and causing or risking a catastrophe because the lab was very close to St. Francis Hospital and the Lawrence County Head Start program, which provides services to preschool children.
Midas' bond was reduced from $205,000 to $10,000 by District Justice Melissa Amodie on Friday, but it wasn't clear Friday night whether he'd posted it.
Midas was arrested in late September. Police discovered what they allege is a methamphetamine manufacturing lab in August after being called to a domestic dispute at Midas' home.
