WARREN -- A 47-year-old city man who was paroled from prison in March has been indicted on robbery charges.
Detective Al Bansky of the city police department said Amos Hughley Jr. has been indicted on charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and illegal possession of a weapon.
Bansky said Hughley is accused of robbing the First Place Bank in Jamestown Village Plaza on Sept. 11.
"The indictment was issued secretly last month and I recently served him with it," Bansky said, nothing that Hughley is in a Cleveland hospital.
Police say that moments after Hughley robbed the bank, he fled in a vehicle. A tow-truck driver who saw him leave the bank chased him, Bansky said.
According to police reports, Hughley crashed his car on North River Road after being chased by the tow truck. The tow-truck driver called police on his cell phone during the chase, Bansky said.
"Mr. Hughley is still in pretty bad shape," Bansky said. "He has two broken legs plus a number of other injuries."
Hughley will appear in court after he is released from the hospital, Bansky said.
"I don't know how much longer he will need medical care," Bansky noted.
Paroled from prison
Hughley was paroled from prison March 22. Hughley served 19 years after being convicted in Trumbull County on four charges of aggravated robbery, two counts aggravated assault and one count of voluntary manslaughter.

The tow-truck driver was driving past the plaza on Mahoning Avenue and saw the man run from the bank, Bansky said.
Bansky said he did not know how fast Hughley was driving when he crashed.
Police said Hughley went off the side of the road, hit a wooden post and landed in a ditch. Hughley was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and by helicopter to Cleveland, police said.
