NILES SCHOOLS Equipment for center to be rebid

NILES -- Though city school board members are happy with the dollar amounts attached to recent bids for a technology package, they decided a greater number of bids would be better.
The board agreed Thursday to reject the four bids received on the technology package for the new middle school and to advertise again. The package will include equipment and installation for the media center at the school, which is under construction.
Bids were received from ASCC of Cranberry Township, Pa., for $604,047; from Dickey Electric of Youngstown for $574,250; from Valley Electric of Girard for $469,750; and from NEC of Akron for $543,480.
"We are pleased with the bids, just not the number of bidders," said Superintendent Patrick N. Guliano.
Open house
The public can get its first look at the new school at an open house later this month.
After the community's 2 p.m. Halloween parade Oct. 27, the district's levy committee will host the open house until 5 p.m.
Guliano said tours will be given of the construction site, but not all areas will be open to the public.
"Not all areas are safe enough and comfortable enough," he said.
Also at the meeting, board members awarded several supplemental contracts.
Michelle L. Spagnoletta received two contracts at $1,763 each for advising the National Honor Society and coaching the speech and debate team.
Cheryl J. Garbus was awarded a $755 contract to serve as Prep Bowl adviser. John N. Revezzo was granted a $1,259 contract as coach and a $881 contract as assistant coach for the speech and debate team, while Chad R. Ries received $881 as assistant speech and debate coach.
Richard D. Wilkins was awarded a $1,511 contract to serve as adviser of the student newspaper.
Supplemental coaching contracts of $2,519 were awarded to Robert Colapietro for seventh-grade girls basketball, Kelly C. Frankford for eighth-grade girls basketball and Denise Naples for ninth-grade girls basketball.
Naples was also awarded a $1,511 contract as seventh- grade volleyball coach, and John E. Tokash received the same amount as assistant volleyball coach.
