Pa. police probe abduction attempt

JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- State police are investigating what they called a case of attempted kidnapping in Greene Township.
Police said a 21-year-old Jamestown woman and her 17-month-old son were traveling east on Pennsylvania Route 58 just east of Murphy Road around 2 p.m. Wednesday when a white car cut them off and forced them to stop.
The woman told police that a male passenger wearing a ski mask got out of the white car and got into the rear passenger side of her car, ordering her to drive on several back roads. They eventually stopped on Slater Road near Williamsfield, Ohio.
The woman said the man made her get out of her car and then got out himself and started walking to the front of her car. However, he slipped, and, when he did, the woman said, she threw her purse at the man, jumped back into her car and drove off.
She told police she stopped at the first residence she came to and called the Ashtabula County Sheriff's office for help.
Police said a tracking dog was able to follow the man's scent for about a half-mile, leading investigators to believe the man had been picked up by another vehicle.
The white vehicle seen by the woman was possibly a Chevrolet Cavalier with Ohio registration plates. It was unknown whether its driver was a man or a woman, police said. The police report had no additional information about the car.
