AT A GLANCE Council Items
Youngstown City Council handled these items Wednesday:
Heard Porfirio Esparra Jr. of Jacobs Road and Wilson Valentin of Cornell Avenue express concern about new low-income homes on the East Side that will be occupied by renters. They asked council to monitor the program's success or failure elsewhere in the city, effect on property values, effect on homeowners insurance and the qualifications for residents.
Heard Gus Guzman of South Avenue discuss the 11th annual Laying of the Roses at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3 at the memorial downtown.
Heard Clarence Boles of Idlewood Avenue discuss Weed and Seed Coordinator Veronica Foster. Boles asked council to consider what he views as her lack of performance when her contract comes up for renewal to lead the South Side crime prevention and community development program.
Authorized the police department to buy two cars through the state purchasing program for $29,798. The cars are for the juvenile diversion program.
Authorized the prohibition of parking at all times on the north side of Lanterman Avenue between Billingsgate Avenue and Rogers Road.
Sent a proposed zone change to the planning commission. The change would turn the area between Wick and Andrews avenue, bounded by Adams, Meadow, Elk and North Watt streets, from general residential to limited industrial. The change would allow Fireline Inc. to expand its operations.
Voted to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 6. Council usually skips its meetings when they fall the day after Election Day.
