YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said a 25-year-old South Side man threatened to jump from the Market Street bridge about 2 a.m. today.
Wind, rain and the bridge vibrating from truck traffic exasperated the situation, causing police to believe the man could inadvertently slip and fall to his death.

He was taken to Forum Northside Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.

No rails for bridge
POLAND -- A replacement bridge on U.S. Route 224 here will be installed without the decorative railings wanted by some residents and village officials.
The added rails would have cost the village about $168,000, but council decided not to spend the money.
The village finance committee examined the issue and decided that with a 2-mill operating levy renewal on the ballot, it would not be a good idea to ask residents to support the levy while spending money on bridge aesthetics.
